About Me
I studied for my degree at the Arts University Bournemouth between 2012-2016. I completed an Art and Design Foundation diploma in my first year and went on to complete a bachelor's degree in Animation Production. There I found my passion for stop motion animation, set building and prop making. In my final year I worked on two short films taking on the roles of an animator, set builder and producer.
In the second year of my degree I was chosen to attend a work experience project at Aardman Animations during their production of Farmers Llamas. I was able to work within the Assistant Animation department where I learned how to sculpt with plasticine in the Aardman style. Having not experienced much sculpting work before I started on sculpting plasticine eyelids for the sheep. I then was moved quickly onto farmer mouth replacements. I was also given the opportunity to do test animations with professional puppets and was able to discuss my work and gain invaluable feedback from the animators.
After graduating University in June 2016 I was hired on the Aardman Early Man film production in October that same year. As a Trainee Assistant Animator I was introduced to the complexities of the animation industry: sculpting mouth replacements to tight specifications, making simple armatures out of wire, animation testing and sculpting plasticine animals. Learning my role and responsibilities quickly I was promoted to Supervising Assistant Animator. The new role allowed me a greater chance to develop my skills as well as more opportunities for working on animated plates and full shots.
I was selected for the production team of Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon from the beginning of production. This allowed me to be directly involved with the design of the character's mouth replacements. I assisted in puppet MOTs, analysing and evaluating them to provide creative feedback to the puppet makers on adjustments that would enable easier and more productive animations. I was also heavily involved with the films promotional stills, working on creating poses for the characters which were used to promote the film.
I joined the production team of the new series of Shaun the Sheep as production began as an Assistant Animator. My role was to handle all the plasticine elements; for me this meant I was in charge of the pigs who feature heavily in this series. I sculpted them into position for shots, maintained their armatures, re-pressed them with fresh plasticine when they got too dirty whilst still being able to animate on the floor.
I am currently working on The Amazing Adventures of Morph shoot as the only Assistant Animator, sculpting characters, maintaining armatures and animating.
